Iolite

The name Iolite comes from the Greek word ‘Ios’ meaning Violet. Also known as the ‘Water Sapphire’, Viking navigators are said to have used slices of Iolite to filter the sun’s rays through clouds to help them steer during long sea voyages. As such, Iolite is an excellent choice of gemstone if you are looking for direction and guidance, or need a little help tapping into your inner courage.

Iolite was originally discovered in Spain in 1813 and has since been identified in many other regions worldwide including Australia, Brazil, Madagascar and India. Vincent especially loves how the sparkling navy shade reminds him of the colour of the deep ocean and holding a piece of Iolite always takes him right back to his scuba diving days!
